Katy, Texas · Weddings and celebrations

A barn built in 1856, raised again in Katy.

It was taken apart in Ohio, tagged beam by beam, and rebuilt here by Amish hands on ground the Beckendorff family has farmed since the late 1880s. You can get married under it.

What the place actually is

Four numbers worth knowing before you tour it

Two of them are about the building and two are about the family. All four are the reason couples pick this barn over a room with a barn door on it.

The only one of its kind

Sixty feet of clear span, and not a single piece of metal holding it up.

The roof uses a double-canted queen post system. Timber framing experts say this is the only antique structure known to still use one. It is what lets the barn open 60 feet wide with nothing in the middle, about half again wider than other timber-framed barns, carried on 60 foot hand-hewn oak tie beams.

What happens here

One barn, one chapel, and a working farm around both.

Beckendorff Farms is not a venue built to look like a farm. The tomatoes going to Houston restaurants come off the same ground your guests will park on.

Washington Township, Ohio

This is the barn, before it was ours.

Historic records and antique timber framing experts date it to somewhere between 1856 and 1865. It stored hay and grain, and for a while it was a dairy barn. Master timber framers, including an Amish crew, dismantled it, tagged every piece and blueprinted the whole frame. It came to Katy on trucks, and another Amish crew put it back up.

The farm

Blake is the fourth generation to farm this ground.

Robert Beckendorff started with cotton in the late 1880s, then corn, peanuts and rice. Blake grows heirloom tomatoes now, more than 36 varieties of them, and sells to Pearl and Vine in Katy and to Brennan's and Potente in Houston. Couples who married here come back in summer for the produce sale.

Before you ask

The questions every couple asks us

The Beckendorff Barn holds up to 300 guests for a seated dinner. The chapel holds 200 seated, with standing room for 30 more in the mezzanine.

You have access to our spaces from 10:00 AM on the day of your rental, with 6 hours of event time. Extensions are available for a $1,000 upgrade, and all time extensions must be requested and paid for at least 30 days before the wedding.

Yes. Your rental includes our tables and chairs for 300 people, along with the farmhouse tables, whiskey barrels, X back wood chairs, and white folding chairs for an outdoor ceremony.

Yes. You are welcome to provide your own alcoholic beverages, but everything must be served by a T.A.B.C. licensed bartender through your caterer. The bridal party may have champagne or beer in the bridal and groom suites while getting ready. No liquor is consumed on the premises before the bar officially opens.

We keep a Required Caterers list, vetted for insurance, food and service. If you have your heart set on someone else, an outside caterer carries a $1,000 fee and must be insured, hold a health permit, schedule a site visit, and be approved by us first.

Your wedding coordinator walks the whole thing through with you on the morning of your wedding. If you would rather rehearse the night before, that is an additional $500 rental fee, subject to availability.

Nearly all of them mention a person, not the building.

We could not have picked a better place to have our reception!! Beckendorff farms was so beautiful and having a wedding coordinator supplied through the venue was such an amazing help. Caroline helped us feel so comfortable and confident heading into our wedding day that everything was going to be perfect.

Come stand in it before you decide.

Photographs of a 60 foot span do not really work. Tours are by appointment, most days of the week, and Blake or Stacey will usually be the one showing you around.
